NFL to re-air Super Bowl commercials
NFL to re-air Super Bowl commercials. CNET is reporting that the NFL Network will air a special show that includes nothing but the ads from the Super Bowl. Now there is no reason to put up with the interruptions from all that damn football to get to what we all really want–the new Budweiser ad campaign. Or Pets.com….what year is this?
And when exactly did the Big Ads become bigger than the Big Game?

New DRM Laws for 2006
WASHINGTON, DC — Each new year brings with it new laws, many of which became effective on January 1, 2006. Having seen the huge success the Motion Pictures Asssociation and the Recording Industry Association had in protecting their material through draconian DRM measures in 2005, several other industry groups lined the halls of congress in 2005 looking to protect their assets, also.

The Great Magazine Experiment (#6): World News from USN&WR
If the whole idea of The Great Magazine Experiment were to compare similar magazines in order to offer up some insight, I would be looking at Time, Newsweek and USN&WR at least in the category of weekly news/feature magazines. But that’s not what this is about. I just want to know whether print magazines have entirely lost their relevance in an online world. I chose U.S. News & World Report as my entry in this category because my memory of it was that it was more news-centric than the other two that seemed to be more about the feature stories.

LostinaFog Blog Social Bookmarks Shortcuts Added
I continue to play around with the new WordPress 2.0 installation. I added a shortcut for social bookmarking to each post now on the main blog page. I’m digging (no pun intended) these sites right now, so you’ll just have to bear with me.
Do you want to get started using one or more of these services? Its easy. At the bottom of your favorite recent LostinaFog.com post click one of the little icons where it says “Quickly bookmark [post title] at” followed by these little icons for four of the sites that I’ve used. These are (in order): del.ico.us, digg, newsvine, and yahoo (linked to their MyWeb 2.0 beta service).

The Great Magazine Experiment (#5): Update
We are now a month into 2006 and my Great Magazine Experiment is in full swing. I have received 15 of the year’s 300 issues, dutifully noted the time devoted to each, and kept notes on each issue. I am being sooooooo freakin’ anal about this. You can now look for regular updates at the clip of 3 to 5 each week. I wanted a bit of time here at the beginning to make sure I have a bit of perspective to the process along the way.

Social Bookmarking is NOT an STD — Newsvine Beta
There are a growing pile of social bookmarking services available to web explorers of the world, and the list seems to be growing daily. Are you using Del.icio.us, digg or technorati? They seem to be the main players. Each of these allow you to tag posts you write easily with key words of your own choosing to help bring them to a wider audience. Users can search for content through either service by using these tags. I subscribe to the RSS feeds of several Technorati tags where I have a keen interest. Del.icio.us also lets you add a button in your browser that will show any related posts to the one you are currently reading, based on the Del.icio.us social network feedback. Technorati will identify if anybody else in the blogosphere is linking to the particular page you are reading if you watn to follow back on some posts. Digg lets the reader community rate the postings made by others…whoever gets the most diggs shows up on their front page. It helps fight through the technology news clutter.

LostInaFog Blog Ch-ch-changes (and updates)
I’ve been working behind the scenes to understand better how all this works and trying to add some new capabilities to the blog. You will note in the left side bar that that Tag Cloud is now set so that when you click on a tagword there, it will give you all our posts that included that tag. The bigger and greener the word, the more links available.

From GQ via Style: JOHN KERRY HAS FALLEN…AND KEEPS GETTING UP
GQ of all places came out with this excellent article on John Kerry and the state of the democratic party headed into the beginning of the next election cycles. It doesn’t seem overly slanted, but Kerry doesn’t come off that great. The author is Michael Crowley. How will it play out, if Kerry wants to be the candidate and his party doesn’t want him?

Why are we all so stupid?
A new study says that 20% of students completing a four-year degree can’t do things like figure a proper tip or estimate if they have enough gas to make it to the next town. The study also includes the “good news” that this compares favorably to the adult population at large. So these are the stars…
Ummm….wtf? How are these kids maximizing their beer budget if they can’t do simple mathematical comparisons? Back in my day we knew how to compare the price of that 6-pack of 20 ouncers on sale to the 12 pack of 12-ounce cans.
