Apple Fan Community Run Off Road

SAN FRANCISCO–The Apple fan community was run off the road this week by the announcement that Steve Jobs will change his shoe allegiance after 20 years of success. The announcement by Jobs coincided with some sort of product announcement by Apple and Nike. Steve wore his traditional jeans and black turtleneck, but the famed New Balance 991’s were nowhere in sight.

“My world is reeling,” said Evan Binenstock, head of Apple’s mid-South of Market, left side of the street Mac users group. “What is he doing? I’ve got a closet full of 991’s still in the box. What am I supposed to do?”

Arnold Calonje, a coworker and fellow MSoMLSotSMUG member added, “What’s next? Blue turtlenecks? Bell-bottom jeans?” While both men were clearly stunned by the change, they admitted that they would head down to Nike Town later after they got confirmation on the new shoe model Steve was wearing.

Jennifer Connelly was at the flagship Apple Store in Union Square in San Francisco on Tuesday morning wearing her 991s and looking at the new MacBooks. “He what?”, she screamed. “He can’t do that. I just bought new iPod shoe lace earbuds for my 991s. And with Nike? Oh my god, I need a shower.”

But not everybody was upset at the news. Wailin Hsiao, overhearing the conversation, added, “Thank god. Have you ever worn these things?” she asked pointing at her own NBs. “They hurt like hell.”

Former Apple CEO John Sculley was told of the Apple announcement while heading through airport security at SFO. He promptly dumped his Nikes into the nearest trash bin and boarded his flight in just his sock feet. “Time to check out Adidas,” he was heard to mumble.

New Balance issued a short comment to the press. It read, in its entirety, “WTF?”

Support more inane rambling by buying me a beer!
